How to Cancel Your Square Account

1

Log into your Square Dashboard

Go to Account & Settings > Account > Deactivate Account. Square does not require advance written notice.

2

Download your data

Export your sales history, customer data, and item catalog from Square before deactivating. Go to Reports > Sales Summary > Export.

3

Return or keep Square hardware

Square hardware (readers, terminals) is not returned. Square Reader (free) can be discarded. Purchased Square Terminal/Stand are yours to keep or sell.

4

Notify your staff

Let employees know about the transition date and any new POS or terminal workflow changes.

5

Process your last Square batch

Make sure all transactions have been settled before deactivating. Check pending payouts and wait for final deposits.

What to Expect During the Transition

The transition from Square typically takes 2–5 business days from application approval to live processing. Most merchants run parallel briefly — keeping Square active for existing transactions while the new account is set up.

Timeline

Day 1–2: Submit application and Square statement. Day 2–3: Underwriting and approval. Day 3–5: Equipment shipped (or activated). Day 5: Live processing on Liberty Bancard.

How Liberty Bancard Handles the Switch for You

Liberty Bancard handles the application, underwriting, equipment shipping (for qualifying merchants), terminal programming, and go-live support. You do not need to contact Square about your new processor — simply stop using Square once your Liberty Bancard account is active.

What You Need to Get Started
